Come find me on Patreon

Publishing is a hard business nowadays. The genre is so full of new books published every single day, it’s hard to get any visibility. My earnings show this. When I first started out self-publishing, I had quite a good income. It’s since declined and it continues to decline. Even now, with new books out, I earn nothing close to what I used to. It’s a hard pill to swallow, for sure. So to try and get a bit of a stable income (so I can continue writing and not having to give it up due to full-time work), I have started a Patreon.

What is Patreon?

It’s basically a place where you can support your favourite creators. You pick the creator you want to support and pledge a certain amount every month or for every creation. Different creators do it differently. I do per month, as I post quite often. You can be a Patreon for one month and then cancel, or you can keep with a creator for as long as you want. You can edit your pledge (go up tiers or go down) and you can cancel at any time. Creators usually have different levels of rewards, like $1 gets you a certain something, $5 gets you more rewards than the lower tier, etc.

Why I started a Patreon

Like I said above, to get a more stable income. Amazon is fickle at the best of times, and having at least one place I can rely on would be good. Also, I would very much like to get to know people. I started out writing serials and posting them on Aarinfantasy, FictionPress, and Livejournal, and I frankly miss those days where I had a closer relationship to the people reading my stories. On Patreon you can comment on posts, there’s a community tab where you can post posts. I’m the most socially awkward person you’ll ever meet, but in real life and online, but with Patreon I aim to get to know each and every person who pledges. I want to get feedback, want to talk to people about my stories, I want to have fun, I want to try something new.

What you can find on my Patreon

If you choose the $1 tier, you get Patreon exclusive updates and cover reveals and such. The $2 tier gives you short stories (and soon an exclusive short novel). The $5 tier is where you’ll get the most bang out of your buck (or isn’t that what they say?). I post my WIPs as I write them in this tier, as well as ebooks, behind-the-scenes tidbits, and trivia. I post several times a week – sometimes there’s even more than one post a day. I’m excited and I have so much to share!

Here is my Patreon if you want to take a look for yourself. It’s quite a neat site and it’s set up so it’s easy to navigate. I have three tiers available, and they’re listed on the side with the rewards. If you do decide to pledge, I hope we can get to know each other well – and I look forward to hearing from you.
